Dr. Aman Karim

Ph.D. in Chemistry (Natural Products), University of Karachi (2011); Postdoctoral Research in Phytochemistry, Aga Khan University (2012).

Dr. Aman Karim is Associate Professor, and Acting Head of the Department of Biological Sciences and Head of the Natural Product Research Section since 2020 at the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), Pakistan.

Dr. Karim earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry (Natural Products) from the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi, in 2011, completing part of his doctoral research at the Chemistry Research Laboratory, University of Oxford, UK. He subsequently pursued postdoctoral research at the Aga Khan University, Karachi (2012). From 2013 to 2020, he served as Associate Professor of Phytochemistry at the School of Pharmacy, College of Health Sciences, Mekelle University, Ethiopia. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Biological Chemistry, Washington State University, Pullman, USA. He is a member of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA), Germany.

Dr. Karim’s research focuses on the biological evaluation of natural products, aiming to discover and develop evidence-based herbal therapeutics with anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic properties. He has authored high-quality research articles and book chapters and actively supervises postgraduate students. He is in collaboration with herbal industries in Pakistan and involved in various grants focused on herbal product development.

In addition to his academic and scientific pursuits, Dr. Karim is dedicated to environmental stewardship. He is a co-founder of Zero Waste Alliance Pakistan (ZWAP), an initiative extending zero waste principles from academia to communities nationwide.

He loves travelling, exploring nature and meeting people in search of plant-based remedies.
