Dr. Kauser Abdulla Malik
HEC Distinguished National Professor in Microbiology/Biotechnology
Dr. Kauser Abdulla Malik is a renowned figure in Microbiology and Biotechnology, holding the prestigious title of HEC Distinguished National Professor. He currently serves as the President of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS). The majority of his research was conducted at the Nuclear Institute for Agriculture & Biology (NIAB) in Faisalabad. Subsequently, he became the founding Director of the National Institute of Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (NIBGE). In 1998, he was appointed Chairman of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council. In 2001, he was invited to join the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission as Member (Biosciences/Administration). In 2006, he was requested to join the Planning Commission as its Member (Food/Agriculture).
During his research carrier, Dr. Malik received prestigious competitive research grants from USNSF, US National Academy of Sciences, CFC Amsterdam and several grants from IAEA. Based on his research contribution, three Civil Awards were bestowed upon him by the President of Pakistan for his contributions to Science: Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (1988), Sitara-e-Imtiaz (1998), and Hilal-e-Imtiaz (2004). He also earned Gold Medals from PAS and ISESCO in Rabat, Morocco. In 1995, he was elected Fellow of PAS and later of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).
Dr Malik has been Member of the Boards of several International organizations namely Standing Advisory Group on Nuclear Applications (SAGNA) of IAEA, Vienna, BOG of International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Triest, Italy, Board of Trustees of International Foundation of Sciences (IFS), Stockholm, Member BOG of International Institute of Systems Analyses (IIASA), Laxenberg, Vienna. In addition, Dr Malik has been member of Syndicate of several Universities.
As public service, Dr Malik also served as the caretaker Federal Minister for Food Security and Research from September 2023 to March 2024.
Since 2008, Dr. Malik has been serving as a Professor and Dean at Forman Christian College University, where he founded the School of Life Sciences to advance research in Agriculture, Food, and Health. Numerous PhD candidates have completed their research under his guidance. The school is now named the Kauser Abdulla Malik School of Life Sciences (KAM-SLS).
Dr. Malik has published over 250 journal articles, which have collectively garnered nearly 35,000 citations.
